Though everything else will fail love never will.Troubled? Worried? Confused? Overwhelmed? Don’t know what to say? Struggling in a relationship? Don’t know what to do? Feeling let down or disappointed? Can’t make sense of the world? Feel like you’re not up to the mark? Can’t get along with others. Life is to hard?.etc, etc, etc........ Ever felt like any of these? Then why not try love? Because perfect love casts out all fear. 1 John 4:18 This is the secret to knowing true love. If you want to know love reach out to God because he is reaching out to you. God is love and those who live in love live in God. 1John 4:16. It is now and always has been the case that God intended love to be the essential ingredient to life. God is love and those who live in love live in God. 1 John 4:16_ In 1 Corinthians 13 St Paul is wanting the Christian community in Corinth and by extension us too, to know that love is the key. For the secret to true loving is not about what we do or don’t do and whether or not we are good or bad at but about whether or not we do it in love. The test of true love is this: Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Jesus is the perfect example of this. In his love we can do it too. Jesus love will never fail you. Till next time Andrew This week's readingsDownload this week's pew sheet. pdfGreat question isn’t it? If this is how things really worked we would all have to be much more thankful than we already are. As we approach the end of another year why not take some time to sit down and reflect on all the things we have to be thankful for. And then why not take some time to stop and tell God all about it. As we make the transition from one year to the next St Paul’s words in Colossians chapter 3 are great advice and form the basis for a great prayer we would all do well to remember. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Col 3:14-15. |
